MEET YOUR FAMILIES NEW SUNDAY RITUAL
we Wanted a Place Where Summer Felt Like the summers we remembered. Not a resort. Not a camp. Not a restaurant. Just a rhythm, a table, a towel by the lake. Sunday House is the space we couldn’t find—so we built it.
When I think back to my childhood, it looked like kids on docks, wet towels in tangled piles, neighbors who knew your name, just enough structure to feel safe, and just enough freedom to feel wild.
But somewhere along the way, that kind of community stopped being easy to find. It doesn’t really seem to exist anymore. most people don’t go to church. There’s no bowling league. No communal meeting place. Just full calendars and nowhere we actually want to be. A hundred Slack channels. No one to share a meal WITH.
Sunday House is our response. the thing that happens when you stop trying so hard to create community and just create the space for it to find you.

WHEN THE ORANGE TOWEL IS OUT, magic begins.
Every morning at the cottage when I was growing up, my cousins and I would crouch in the bushes, watching the balcony. We were waiting for one thing: the orange towel. When it appeared, we knew what it meant. My grandparents were ready for us. Breakfast was on. It’s a small gesture — but it’s seared into my childhood. A quiet ritual that said: you’re welcome now.
At Sunday House, every Sunday begins the same way.
There’s no bell. No loudspeaker. No formal announcement. Just one orange towel, hung to dry on the railing.
That’s how you’ll know: the house is open, the coffee is hot, and the day has begun. It’s our secret signal — part flag, part welcome mat, part old camp tradition. The orange towel means: come in. Take your shoes off. Jump in the lake. Grab a drink. Stay awhile. Kids know it. Neighbours watch for it. New friends learn fast.
No towel? We’re still setting up (or still asleep).
Orange towel? It’s Sunday. Let’s go.

Family-STYLE LUNCH
Lunch at Sunday House is the main event. Fire-crackling, bread-tearing, tomato-dripping joy. Meats kissed by flame. Vegetables blistered and salted and served straight from cast iron. Bowls passed around like secrets.
Big platters, bigger flavors — everything served family-style under a canopy of trees and woodsmoke. The wine is casual but good. The lemonade has herbs in it. Kids pile plates with corn and fruit and things they never thought they’d like. Adults exhale into docktails and second helpings. No buffet lines. No fussy plating. Just the kind of meal that makes people stay longer than they meant to.
Yes, we’re cooking over fire. Yes, there will be meat. But if you’re more lentils-than-lamb, fear not — we accommodate, we improvise, we make magic. Just give us a heads-up.
And after? Hammocks, splash games, maybe a spontaneous talent show — but it all starts with lunch that tastes like the fire, the forest, and a little bit like home.
3 PM
The Orange Towel Comes Down
Until next time.

WHat you’re really buying
People don’t come to Muskoka by accident. You came because you wanted something better—not louder, not faster, but real. A life with space for tradition and spontaneity. A community that doesn’t just wave from the dock but knows your name and your story. These eight Sundays are for people who chose this place on purpose. They’re not events, they’re declarations. That time matters. That connection matters. That beauty and simplicity are worth organizing your week around.
Whether you’re raising kids or just raising your standards for how good life can feel, these are the days that give shape to the stories that last. They’re the ones you’ll tell around campfires and dinner tables for years. A reason to put your phone away. A way to build a shared language of joy, season after season. This is not about searching. This is about choosing. And choosing well.
Why You’ll Never Want to Miss a Sunday
-
the food
We’ve reached the stage of life where we’ve eaten at enough Michelin-starred restaurants to know—there’s nothing quite like food cooked over an open flame and shared with people you love. Sunday lunch isn’t fancy, but it’s really good. Thoughtful, seasonal, abundant. Handmade bread. Charred vegetables. Something slow-roasted and passed around. A crisp salad. A pitcher of something cold. Dessert that disappears before you can blink. The menu changes every week, but the feeling stays the same: generous, grounding, and deeply satisfying. You don’t bring food, or even think about it. You just show up, eat well, and let it anchor the day.
-
Weekly Programming
Sunday House programming is for the whole family—structured enough to be engaging, but flexible enough to feel like summer. Kids take part in weekly swim lessons and paddle sessions (canoe, kayak, paddleboard). Lifeguards are on site all day for free swim, and surprise activities like singalongs or build-your-own ice cream bars. Meanwhile, adults can join an optional morning paddle, and special sessions like yoga on the dock. Programming is always optional, often delightful, and designed to make everyone feel like they’re part of something.
-
The Regatta
It’s the most joyful kind of friendly competition. Week 5 (Aug 5) we host the Sunday House Regatta—a day where kayaks and canoes become racing vessels, and families cheer from the dock with lemonade in hand. There are heats for every age, relay-style team events, and a final all-in float that ends with popsicles and victory splashes. There are no losers—just pendants and a lakeside family dance to end the night. The kind of memories that turn into stories told year after year.
-
The Service
This isn’t just you popping by our cottage—it’s a beautifully run operation where the details are handled and the vibe still feels personal. Our team is there to welcome you by name, remember your kids’ swim level, refill your lemonade before you ask, and make sure every moment feels effortless. Tables are set, towels are stocked, the fire gets lit at just the right time. Behind the barefoot ease is a staff that’s fully on point—trained, thoughtful, and completely focused on making Sundays seamless and special for your entire family.
Meet Kat & Zak
I’m Kat. I founded a company called Sheertex—the one that made unbreakable tights out of ballistic-grade fibers. It was intense. Wild. Unforgettable. And when my time there ended rather abruptly this year, I decided to take my over active mind and apply it to something utterly unscalable: I decided to build Sunday House.
This of this as you hiring a woman who’s raised hundreds of millions in venture capital, to plan the world’s best Sunday for barefoot kids and tired parents. This isn’t a business plan—it’s a love letter with a lemonade stand.
Fair warning: I’m an introvert who somehow ended up obsessed with throwing events for large groups of humans. Zak is the opposite. He’s the extrovert, the host, the guy who will remember your dog’s name and how your kid likes their marshmallows roasted. He’s the charisma. I’m the plan. Together, we make it work.
We overdo things. We know this. And we intend to thoroughly overdo this. Our two-year-old will be our tiny compass. When he’s wet, sun-kissed, slightly feral, and happy—we’ll know we’re on track. When he’s melting down? That’s why there's wine.
If you want to learn more about me, or why we’re doing this you can read more on my Substack.
What Comes After Eight Sundays?
Truthfully, we don’t know what Sunday House becomes. Maybe next summer it grows into a real community center. Maybe this fall we try something in the city.
Maybe it stays small and sacred — something that only ever existed here, at the lake, for a handful of perfect Sundays.
Right now, it's just an experiment in making summer feel like it used to: open-hearted, loosely structured, a little magical. We’re building this one Sunday at a time, and letting it tell us what it wants to be.
